AZUL Energy has been featured on the official website of the SENDAI BOSAI-TECH Innovation Platform in Sendai City for its prototype development and demonstration testing of a hybrid air-battery system.
To prepare for prolonged power outages caused by large-scale disasters and other emergencies, it is necessary to secure enough power to last several days to several weeks for evacuation shelters and infrastructure. However, existing storage batteries face challenges in securing sufficient capacity due to cost, space, and safety concerns.
The Company aims to solve this challenge through a hybrid system that combines high-capacity, safe “zinc-air batteries”—which do not use rare metals—with “lead-acid batteries,” which offer superior output and reliability. As a first step, we have achieved significant results in verifying the principles of the hybrid air battery system, demonstrating its long-term operational performance in the laboratory, conducting eight consecutive days of outdoor operation, and raising public awareness.
Building on these results, we will continue to enhance the performance of our hybrid air battery system through initiatives such as the development of next-generation zinc-air batteries, and we will move forward with its implementation in society.
